The Cross Country team participated in yet another early meet on September 29th. It was the last regular meet before districts, so the pressure was really on for most of them. Conditions weren’t amazing; as they haven’t been all season, but our runners still did exceptionally well. We all already know from last year’s state qualifications that our athletes are remarkably talented, but I’d just like to take the time to recognize some of this week’s outstanding accomplishments.

The Varsity Elite Girls team ended in first place with Felisa Saheib running a 19:17 5k. Varsity Elite Boys finished in seventh with Matthew Bayles running a 17:31. Varsity Open Girls came in second place; just barely missing Grapevine, with Jaclyn Turner running a 21:20. Finally, the Varsity Open Boys team’s best performer was Mohammad Husain, running a 19:56.

After the sixth regular meet of this season, the team will be preparing for the October 12th 5A District Championships meet which will ultimately determine who goes to Regionals and State. Make sure to keep an eye out, as you should expect a repeat of last year.
