The Cross Country District 7-5A Championship meet was held this past Friday at the Fort Worth Athletic Performance Ranch. Outcomes of this meet determined who, if anyone at all, qualified for the regionals meet. After a long season with a new coach, the fresh perspective and different training seemed to have paid off.

Varsity girls finished second- missing Grapevine by one point, qualifying the following seven girls to compete in regionals: Felisa Saheib, Mia Soo Hoo, Gretchen Pfeiffer, Claire Compher, Deborah Hethcock, Jaclyn Turner, and Brenna Casey. With sophomore Felisa Saheib finishing fourth overall at 19:17 and freshman Jaclyn Turner finishing nineteenth overall at 20:26, great things should be expected from this incredibly talented and young team.

Varsity boys finished fourth- just barely missing qualifications. Nonetheless, with most of the boys running some of their best races of the season, one managed to overcome the competition. Sophomore Matthew Bayles finished fifth overall at 16:46, automatically sending him to regionals. Yet again, another great example of just how early these runners are showing remarkable potential.

Although Junior Varsity teams don’t compete at regionals, they still performed to the best of their abilities on Friday. JV girls ended in second with Junior Alyssa Dupree finishing second overall at 20:28. JV boys ended in third overall with sophomore Carson Pescatello finishing twentieth at 18:57.
